How to treat stammerers

Hi ,I was thinking from a long time to make an instruction guide for my family so that they know how to treat and deal with stammerers .I want each and every law of this guide to be accurate so that no stranger gets a wrong impression or knowledge about stammering .We all can give this guide to our family ,this will be a step forward in acceptance. Please help me to add points and and discuss points that I have added.
1.Slowing down your own speech when you talk to your child will make it easier for him to follow what you are saying and help him feel less rushed. This can be more helpful then telling a child to slow down, start again or take a deep breath.

2.It may help to pause for one second before you answer him or ask a question. This slow, less hurried way of speaking gives your child time before answering.

3.Show your child you are interested in what he says, not how he says it. Look at him when he talks, then he knows you are listening and won’t rush his speech. If you are busy doing something and cannot stop, tell your child that, although you are busy, you are still listening, or explain why you cannot stop, but give him your full attention later.

You could add, I guess: dont treat Stammering as a taboo topic. If child is ready or wants to talk about it, discuss it objectively..

    Good points Sid…
    Another one:
Be patient with your child who stammers. Do not feel uncomfortable about his speech or make the child realize that you are uncomfortable about it. This may in turn make the child uncomfortable about his stammering and give rise to stigma.
