After introducing stammering as a part of my life and actually telling them about the obstacles and difficulties that I face every day, everyone was staring at me like I was a superman or from some other planet. From that day more and more people(including girls) started interacting with me and sent me friendship mails and all that...

TISA recently interviewed Beata Akerman, a researcher, an activist and a PWS from Slovenia. She has written 'Izabela', a beautiful award winning children's book, about a princess, who stammered! One of her great personal achievements is- instead of seeking personal relief, she decided to be an activist and work for those who stammer. We share here, this interview in two parts. You are welcome to contact her, if you have a question at the email ID given at the bottom.

It is with some sadness, we reproduce this communication from Jim CAROOPEN, Mauritius; I hope we will learn something from this and brace ourselves for the marathon, so that the spirit of Friends 4 Fluency carries on in Asia:
Dear friends,
I am writing to inform you that during a general assembly held on 27th June 2010, the members of Friends 4 Fluency have decided by six votes for and one vote against to put an end to the activities of the self-help group, and to proceed with its winding up.

When I was young I thought only boys like me stammer. May be not all boys, just me. My sister did not stammer, my mother did not. Girls in my class did not stammer. In fact some girls were “fascinated” with my stutter, which I found quite embarrassing. Now, at 52, many of my opinions are changed. I know girls too stammer and they too feel embarrassed when boys tease them about it.
