We, the PWS have tried so many things to attain fluency. I, as a child have always hoped for something miraculous or magical thing that will happen one find day that will rescue us from the shackles of this impediment. I’ve always looked for that encounter with someone who will reveal to me the secret mantra towards fluency. I always searched and read a lot about stammering cure on internet. And it’s on this wonderful media that I came across – Steve Hill.

TISA is pleased to share the report (pdf, 8.7 mb) of first Communication workshop conducted in Herbertpur from 7th to 16th Jan 2010. Ten IPWS participated in it. Two worked as facilitators. Everyone contributed to the onward momentum and collective sharing. The framework of the workshop was based on CALMS approach. Prolongation, bouncing, pausing and voluntray stuttering were some of the main techniques shared and practiced. Acceptance was dicsussed as an important underlying value. On return, how we can sustain this process of change, was discussed in the context of Self help groups- a core TISA strategy. There was a lot of fun too- a mountain trek and a boating picnic! We will share the participants's formal feedback as soon as we receive it. Raja Bhattacharjee, a professional prohotgrapher, has put pictures of this workshop online to share with others. |

TISA has been getting inquiries as to which therapist should one consult?
TISA is more about self help. Secondly, few therapist would be open to sharing their clinical data with us for review. So, we have not done any objective study of efficacy of any particular approach or therapist. Yes, we do encourage IPWS to share their therapy experinces in SHG and on our website, to help others. But these are only opinions of one individual. So here is what we recommend:

Self-help, or self-improvement, is a self-guided improvement - economically, intellectually, or emotionally - often with a substantial psychological basis. There are many different self-help movements and each one has its own unique focus, techniques, associated beliefs, proponents and in some cases leaders. Self-help often takes place on the basis of publicly available information or of support groups where people in similar situations join together (wikipedia).
