Common women & men – Uncommon lives !

As a run up to 22nd Oct (ISAD), TISA is bringing out uncommon stories of common men- people like us. We believe that by talking about our struggles and sharing our strategies- we benefit ourselves and the reader; Society too becomes more accepting and open in the process. After all, stammering is only a different way of talking and therefore nothing to be hidden away from public space. Here are the first two sharings:

You too are welcome to share your uncommon stories with us. (satksri@rediffmail.com)

Surely you didn't leave women out intentionally, right? There must be women in India who stammer too.

    Dear Pam
You are one hundred percent right. Mia Culpa!
We are trying to get testimonies from Indian women too. For women PWS in India it is doubly difficult to break out of that conspiracy of silence.. But God willing, we willl ahve soemthing from them too soon..
    Thanks for reminding us..

A good friend of mine used those exact words -conspiracy of silence, as it relates to the covert stuttering/stammering experience. I am actually writing a blog post sbout it, and then you mention it! Hmmm!

Being a woman does it make it doubly hard. I know – I used to try everything to hide it.
Maybe if female Indian PWS had another female PWS to talk to, might that make a difference?
We don't have to be in same country thanks to technology.

Thanks for taking note of my comment, and of all the outstanding work you do.

You are right. A young girl has just begun coming to Samagra recently for counseling. Another young woman came sometime back – first and last visit! So, women are coming in touch with TISA- but mostly, they are in need for help themselves and are in no position to see beyond their own need for relief.. I am hoping some will come along with time and inclination to help other women..by counseling them even if it is only online..
