Great! Nothing like setting up a shg, to deal with your hidden fears and attitudes..and blossom into a "social" being..

I am 40 years old and have been facing this problem since childhood. Hardly ever spoke in school and college. Answering the phone was an activity I dreaded the most. I have gone through the most harrowing times when I had to fight the demons in my own head and appear for classroom presentations,an activity I always tried to avoid by making someone else present on my behalf.
Around graduation, I figured out that I need some help on this problem and underwent speech therapy along with psychological counselling. That really helped. My problem was out of the closet finally. Though there is no cure for stammering, techniques imparted in speech therapy help one to "live-with" and manage the problem. I wanted to pursue MBA but I dreaded group discussions and instead went on to become a Chartered accountant. I still stammer at Board & Budget meetings, and I have mentally accepted that stammering is here to stay.
My advise to all you folks who stammer:- We all are gifted in some way or the other. Try and hone skills you are strong at. Concentrate on your studies and try and obtian professional qualifications. Dont blame all your failures on stammering. Learn to respect yourself. If you dont respect yourself how can you expect someone else to.Never hide your stammering. If in an interview you are asked to tell something about yourself, tell them upfront that you have a stammering problem and assure them that it wont come in your way of working. You will be surprised to know that more often than not the world empathizes with you.
There are quite a few persons in TISA whom we all can look upto for inspiration. Dr.Sachin ( never realised he stammers) through his blogs and SHG’s has offered us a new ray of hope. Let us try and make the most of it.
Thanks TISA and team Hyderabad for helping me begin a new innings in my life.
