Inspired by Toastmasters

For a long time now, Goa SHG meeting has been a 2-people affair. This Sunday as well, we both met, with our first Toastmaster’s meeting as members, at the back of our minds. Highly inspired by it, we decided to base our agenda on the lines of Toastmasters.

We started with the impromptu speeches. We gave a topic to each other, and the other had to speak on the topic given to him. We had two rounds of impromptu speeches.

Then we had one round of (sort of) prepared speech, wherein the speaker can talk about any topic which he himself can choose. Thus in this round, we chose a topic that we were comfortable talking about.

Finally, we had a very interesting round of story telling, wherein one begins and the other has to continue. This story went a long way, and by the time it ended, we both were the authors of a very neat, horrifying and scary kind of a story which perhaps Ram Gopal Verma may consider for his next horror film 😉

Even though it was only two of us, all the speaking rounds were fun. And what added to the fun was the feedback that we gave after one’s speech. This marathon towards better communication is great fun… indeed!

    Dear Harry

There is nothing to feel bad about or feel apologetic about the number being two!

One of the watch words of TISA is:
A self help group can begin with just two person: a PWS with a mirror !
(Mirror exercise is a very old speech therapy technique for PWS).

Secondly, there is a Jewish proverb: If you save one man, you have saved Humanity!

So, all this boils down to one thing: Number of people attending a SHG is not the most important consideration for TISA. What is important is: our attitude, our motivation.

And from that perspective, you two are doing GREAT!

    Congrats!

Not really apologetic… But I wish others could also make it, so that more participation leads to more interaction, and in turn, benefits all of us more… With more number of people, the activities and games are more fun too…
