BEST SPEAKER AWARD FOR 2ND PROJECT IN CHANDIGARH TOASTMASTERS CLUB

On 07.08.2010 I gave my second speech in Toastmaster club. My topic was corruption , its origin , key players in Indian society, reasons why our society encourages corruption and how we can jointly fight the parasite of corruption making India corruption free. My entire speech of 6.5 minutes went smoothly very well without any block. Though as usual before beginning I was a bit tense and nervous . Before starting I had been doing deep breathing exercise continuously, which really worked. I tried to involve the audience in my talk and whenever there was a pause I had been taking deep breathe. I had motivated Mr. Ishan a PWS and student of Panjab Engineering College to attend the meet and watch my presentation. I am grateful to Mr. Ishan for acceding to my request. At the end it was a pleasant surprise for me when I was chosen the best speaker of the day. I feel sorry for not being able to upload my speech. Though I had tried recording but due to technical reasons it could not be recorded properly. At the end I realized that throughout the talk I was very much involved with contents of my speech and the thought process, not leaving any room for thought of any block. Moreover the topic was close to my heart. The feeling of love also helped. Evaluators comment was that I was a bit fast. I will consciously try to slow down in my next speech. I request ALL to join the toastmaster clubs in their respective areas to shed the fear associated with speaking. Moreover it is keeping me busy all the time thinking about the preparation and doing better next time.
Regards,
Jasbir sandhu, Chandigarh.

Congratulations Mr. Jasbir, This is really inspiring and encouraging to read that you got selected as the best speaker of the day in the toastmasters…… You have shown us that there is one thing that is above stammering, and that is – Communication !

that's the way to go Mr. Sandhu. if you can be just your natural self before the audience, stammering will just disappear. The problem occurs when we allow the audience's gaze to bother us. I learnt to be comfortable before audience, but the challenge is to appeal the audience with voice modulation.

PS: i am working on it.
