Pawan, Vineet, Amaan, Nishu, Surendra, Raju, Parmanand, Mrs Jain and Sachin watched the movie “Front of the class” in Anugrah today (31st Jan). Then, we discussed what appealed most to us. Some responses:
1. The fact that instead of suffering helplessly he (Bob) tried to educate people about his condition..
2. The fact that he did not give up his dream of becoming a teacher inspite of 24 rejections..
3. He has no anger or resentment for having been dealt unfairly by and large..
4. He is able to accept himself and his disability – with a sense of humor, most of the times..
5. He is finally able to accept his father, as another human being..
Next we discussed the similarities and differences between the two conditions- Tourette and stammering. While stammering could be hidden if PWS chose to be quiet, Tourette could not be hidden. This had its own pros and cons. Since stammering can be hidden, many PWS take this route of coping.. Over the years, hiding stammering becomes more impirtant than anything else- more important than “communication” itself. Both conditions invite severe social penalty and have no cure. We also discussd that for us, acceptance should go beyond our stammering and should ideally include all diversity and disability around us.
The movie is based on a real life.

(January 31, 2010 - 7:15 pm)There are lots of things which PWS can learn from this movie… But the highlight of it all is what Brad says in his speech in the climax –
What can one possibly learn from a disability?
– You learn to keep going
– You learn not to let it stop you
– You learn not to let it win
PWS around the globe… are you listening ?

Some time our success comes through our failure.
& failure determines our way of life if we can take it in a positive & truly inspirational way.
