A day started well ends well is what they say about any normal day. For me it was like that because of the meeting I had with TISA Bengaluru SHG. It started little late because its Sunday and people generally feel lazy to get up and come to the venue. Once everyone came along it began quite well with formal introductions among members. Since we all shared common problem it was not weird or strange to talk. Many facts about this SHG which I didn’t know before were introduced to me like it’s one of the biggest SHG’s in India where members are active and are willing to dedicate more time for its works and meets etc. We had a formal agenda to begin with so we started with little stretching relaxing our muscles and feeling free. I for one am not a fan of stretches once I’m dressed up but realized its best way to begin the activity so from next time it’ll lot helpful if members come in their casual dresses rather than jeans which makes it difficult to do these activities. Shobhit was calm and composed and taught us few basics stretches which we enjoyed doing. Then we started the meeting with personal introductions about ourselves and how we came across TISA and SHG in Bengaluru. Later we went on to do extempore which was fun with people feeling uncomfortable to think and talk at the same time in front of others.
Some of us didn’t know about various techniques followed by people so few demonstrations were useful. Pronunciation, prolongation and repetition were useful. Can also include breathing techniques, breaking syllables, pauses etc based on individual problems and choices. Overall it was good for beginners who have not gotten any professional medical help before and also to few who have got help but were unable to use techniques properly till now.
We moved on to do one more talking round where we shared the worst stammering incidents we had experienced in our lives till now. This was very insightful because each individual has faced it many times in their lives but the way each understood and overcame was a inspiration to all. We got to see how different people from different walks of life cope up with this condition starting from their workplace to their homes. We couldn’t do stranger talk and fun activities due to time constraints but overall session was nice and warm.
Found many friends like Shubam, Tanmay, Nikhil, Abdul, Dhanwant, rajkumar, Sudhanshu later we were joined by Sharath.
Looking forward for next meet already 🙂

PS: we have made some rules which are mandatory for everyone to follow:
- Most importantly be loud and clear.
- Use techniques either bouncing or prolongation
- Listen to others
- Do not interrupt or complete other’s words.
We have also asked for feedback to improve our meeting which we will implement in our next meeting.
