Bangalore SHG Report 16th December 2018

This was one of the best mornings of my life because this time we went one step ahead from our usual SHG routine and decided to visit an old age home. A kind of home for those old people who for some reasons cannot stay with their grown-up children or those who don’t have any family member to care of them or those who have become alone and lonely in their old age owing to circumstances.

We first came across two women Pamela and Vatsala, who were 82 and 84 respectively, but their vigor was like a 20 year old. In one of our conversation about faith, Pamela, recited an entire verse of Bible while Vatsala recited a beautiful poem, Daffodil by Wordsworth. They left us perplexed by their sharp memories. We then, chatted to 5-6 women and asked them about their lives. Some of them were a bit shy to open up with us but slowly everyone started telling their stories and their best moments. Trust me, in those very moments there was pain, there was happiness and there was life in their eyes. Some were abandoned by their children while some were a victim of bad circumstances. Those talks of them taught us the value of life.

I would like to conclude by saying that all of us have one life which has been gifted to us by our parents. They are our real well wishers, the only ones in this world who stand by us no matter what. They spent the best years of their lives fulfilling our wishes. And their old age is the only time when they need us. Love them, respect them, value them. They are our true gods.
