My tryst with stammer

Hello friends, I am Annasaheb Shivaji Kalange, currently working in Bangalore since last 9 years and basically from Maharashtra.
I would like to share with you my tryst with stammering. I have a family history as a stammerer, that means stammering is hereditary for me.
When I was around 6 or 7 years old, my father asked me for water. He stammered while asking for water. I laughed and mimicked him and repeated प् प् प् पाणी दे (p p p pani de). That was my first instance of stammering. And the story began.

Stammering memorabilia:
1. One fine evening, I was asked to bring 1 kg tomatoes from vegetable vendor. I went to the vendor’s house located just behind our house. I entered the house and said 1 kilo ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् ट् टोमॅटो द्या (give 1 kilo t t t t t t t t t t t t t t tomato). And I realized I had spoken differently.
2. Fast forward to class 10. History class was going on. Revisions before the exams were going on. Teacher asked to complete fill in the blanks chapter by chapter. First student got up answered for first one. Though my turn was much later, I figured out in advance the question, answer and sentence I would have to speak. As my turn was getting closure and closure, butterflies in the stomach were getting bigger and bigger. Finally my turn came, somehow I managed to utter the answer in just one word; but teacher said speak full sentence. Somehow with little bit of fumble I managed to speak the sentence, but the stammer got imbibed in my subconscious mind.
3. I was sitting alone in my uncle’s shop, and the phone bell rang. I picked up the phone, caller enquired for uncle, I told him that uncle is not in shop and would come sometime later. I asked if he had some message to pass on, he told about some quotation and asked me to repeat the message for confirmation. I said quo, quo, quo, quo, quo, quotation and that guy laughed, laughed. I just disconnected the phone.
4. During my diploma, graduation whenever there used to be viva after the daily practicals, I used to stammer not knowing what to do about it.

Though I came across some stammerers, I always thought that I have a bigger problem which cannot be overcome.
And I have accepted my stammer, thanks to Bangalore SHG.

Thanks, Mr. Annasaheb Shivaji Kalang for sharing this experience. Never consider stammering as a problem, instead of it, consider it as a diversity. Our fears can be overcome by fighting with them. Keep attaining SHG meetings at Bengaluru and keep sharing your experiences. Best Wishes 🙂
