Lets fast forward!

Recevied a touching mail from a young PWS, which made me think as to what do we really want from society?

All his friends make fun of him even teachers do not understand his feelings, he is not able even to express himself freely, not able to answer the question asked by his teacher while he knows the exact answer. Slowly, slowly that boy’s life changes. He went to college, he searched the whole internet for his query, read many books, tried many things – but nothing changed; He is still has th problem. BUT one thing happen………………That boy now does not love to go to School or College; does not want to attend any lecture; he hates his school or college where he has to live in tension and under-pressure.

BUT that boy has understand one thing he can’t overcome this stammering problem on his own or by listening lectures or reading pdf files on stammering( tension, excitment, pressure etc) He just wants some body, to whom he can express himself or who will listen to him…
If this is true- and I dont doubt it- then, Self help groups should help; We just need to make sure that Self hep group truly is a place where everyone, even a student of just 14 years is given his/her due: s/he is heard respectfully and seriously. A place where a young PWS feels encouraged to talk. Many of us dont really want or need “CURE”. We just want to be accepted for who we are- not for who we could become thru “speech therapy” and “hard work”! (this does not go contrary to natural desire among people to grow and become “better”, as they see fit- but acceptance is a better place to start this journey of growth, from).
Another angle, which became quite clear to me on reading these lines: We (most of us) change only when we have no options left! Only when we are convinced that nothing else is going to work: In case of us, the PWS, it often takes years to understand that reading pdf files, listening to lectures and trying out computer based fluency programs are getting us nowhere- then, only THEN, we gird ourselves to confront our fears, for a final battle. I wish there was a way to ‘fast forward’ this part of movie! Will people learn form these stories and bypass the futile searches and running away from the real problem? At least one- the writer of this email, appears to have done it. Great! Happy march ahead!

Thats the pity for a number of people.Unless we don't experience failures ourself we don't learn. Some people learn early and some have to wait a lifetime. I am happy for this boy for his recently found truth. Dude, you can head for the nirvana!!
