Sharing about our SHG

Hi Everyone,

We at Mumbai SHG would like to share how our meetings are going. We have adopted the new SHG structure that matches the organization of Toastmasters with the emotional depth of a TISA SHG.

For those of you who haven’t heard about this format yet, I’d like to share it with you.

Each member follows a structured path based on the Effective Communicator Manual. This manual has 10 projects that are based on a section of Apna Haat Jagarnath. A member completes the projects at his/her own pace and is assigned an evaluator for each one. This evaluator is someone who has already completed the project, and acts as a mentor/guide.

Each meeting also has several role players to be successful such as Meeting Manager, Facilitator of the Meeting, Time, Technique-Counter (we just added this), Grammarian, General Evaluator, Extempore Facilitator, Prepared Speakers and Individual Evaluators. Each role has a clear role description outlined in documents you will find here on Google Drive.

Each meeting also has a 45 minute learning session where we practice techniques, record ourselves, go to a mall nearby and survey others, etc.

Here are some pictures:

There are many members from our SHG not pictured here. We usually forget to take a group photo, something we are working on being more aware about!

We are in the midst of a learning process and are continuously evolving this SHG model. One thing we know for sure, that we must continue to sustain the Mumbai SHG so others in 1 month, 1 year, 10 years from now will have excellent support by fellow PWS. This requires dedication every week from a core team which will keep rotating every 6 months through elections.

Feel free to give us feedback. Also, all the documents above are open-source. Feel free to copy, modify and do what you like :). Dr. Sachin called us the open-source challenge to the McGuire program! We may just be that..and we need your help to make it even better, and better!

We are considering launching a program for children. Do let us know if you have started any programs in your cities for Children who stammer.

Beautiful! Yes, structure of TM and emotional depth of TISA – combined with OPEN source mindset can revolutionise stuttering therapy in this country..
Ten yars ago, no one would have believed it possible- and ten years from now, again, very few will believe that a group of stammerers pulled it off..
Go on, friends – you can do anything, you set your heart on… My sincere best wishes and prayers are with you..

Really great going by Mumbai SHG.
Can you find a permanent place at Mumbai? Because it will be more useful to treat children. Parents have faith on us only if we treat their children in our place rather than going to their places.
Just my suggestion. Pl think it over.
